This position is located in Vancouver BC at FTXT’s fuel cell stack center of excellence. FTXT offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package with a culture of innovation. FTXT has an immediate and exciting opportunity for a full-time Material Engineer. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Technical Officer and perform a variety of key roles within a small 8-10 person team. You should be equally comfortable with literature research and analysis as well as fabricating test samples and prototypes for test.

Responsibilities:

·         Lead materials development activities to improve performance, durability and cost

·         Interface with fuel cell and system experts from around the world

·         Create sub-component design requirements

·         Create trade off analysis, reports and presentations

·         Interface with material, process equipment suppliers and test equipment manufacturers

·         Write test plans, conduct testing and analyse test data

·         Prepare test samples.

·         Generate work packages, project plans  and direct junior staff

·         Design test fixtures, specify and procure test equipment

·         Troubleshoot design issues and provide mitigation solutions

·         Maintain knowledge of state of the art in the fuel cell industry

Qualifications:

·         Degree in Materials or Chemical Engineering or equivalent with at least 5 years of fuel cell experience

·         Master Degree or above preferred

·         Knowledge of resins, glues, seal materials, membranes, catalysts, ionomers, ink mixing

·         Strong knowledge of materials and test methodology

·         Prior experience in material durability modeling is an asset

·         Ability to work in a fast-paste environment with tight deadlines

·         Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

·         Proven ability to document work (reports, presentations etc.)

·         Willingness/ability to travel as required

·         Ability to speak Mandarin desired, but not required

·         Demonstrated hands on laboratory experience
